May always sees a flurry of activity, with one eye on the often-unpredictable weather, as carefully nurtured greenhouse seedlings start getting hardened off in cold frames and then planted out in freshly prepared veg beds.
With the early, and always beautiful, Calla Lilies blooming, we started the month, as is traditional, getting in this year’s dubious potatoes in, and not forgetting to keep a record of which varieties are where!

The weather did it’s best to make things as confusing as possible of course, from pitch black thunder clouds delivering biblical, and plant destroying, hailstorms, which left the scene looking like winter snow had returned, to a record-breaking heatwave which left the dog seeking shady spots in which to oversee the work.

Still, we largely survived the month intact, with two rewards at the end. Our first garlic and our first strawberry of the year!
