“The greatest fine art of the future will be the making of a comfortable living from a small piece of land” – Abraham Lincoln
If Abe, the dollar bill guy was right, then we ought to be celebrating our heroes of self-sufficiency.
But who are your own personal heroes?

For people of a certain age like us, the inspiration definitely came from watching The Good Life on TV at an impressionable age. For others, like Emma, it also comes from memories of the family veg patch. More recently Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall has led the way, while those just starting out may have been inspired by the latest TV show Abz on the Farm following the ex-boyband rapper on a smallholding in Wales. Then there is always John Seymour, the undisputed granddaddy of self-sufficiency.
So who was your Self-Sufficiency Inspiration? One of those, or someone / something else entirely? Take our quick poll below to let us know!

I voted Seymour, but would have to say John Wyndham, Larry Niven & Jerry Pournelle had an influence!

Oh, now I like the idea of a favourite SF poll among Good Lifers, could be very revealing. Bit of an Iain Banks & Alastair Reynolds fan myself.
